White tactical rig. Neon rooftop. Then the stage. May 16th, Nashtyville Thursdays, Skydeck On Broadway - Nashville's largest rooftop patio & bar, up on Level 3 of Assembly Food Hall at 5055 Broadway Place, room for up to 1,600 people and a full panoramic view of the downtown skyline.
This is the fourth Thursday of the residency, and the pattern is already set: same rooftop, same 8 p.m. slot, a different look every week. Nashville's hip-hop scene has spent years working in the shadow of the city's country-music identity - real stages, real rooms, mostly on the margins of what "Music City" is understood to mean. A recurring weekly slot on Broadway itself, in a room built for 1,600 people, is not a small thing to hold down. It's the kind of stage most independent rappers in this city never get offered twice, let alone every week for a season.
BLOOD DIAMONDS ON BROADWAY covers 28 frames across the single night, opening on the rooftop deck washed in blue LED with the neon bar strip and downtown towers stacked up behind, then moving inside past the bar and finishing under stage lights. The look holds all the way through: a red velour tee under a white tactical chest rig, white strapped cargo pants with buckles at the knee, red and white high-tops and an iced-out chain, with a red velour hood pulled up midway through the rooftop run. The title is a contradiction on purpose - "diamonds" against a tactical rig built for combat, softness zipped inside armor, which is the whole tension the wolf mythology runs on: something precious that still has to survive.

Write Off
Two freestyles still without a home - "Opps" and "Recipes" - run alongside "Write Off," the closing track off Frequencies, the album that wouldn't formally exist for another year. That's not unusual for this residency: songs get performed on this stage long before they get a release date, sometimes long before they get a title. The set is where the material gets tested in front of a room before anything is locked down on record.
The teaser went up the day before, same week as the show: "We painted the city red last week. Dont miss when we cast the ellipse! 🌙" - tagged "Tommorow @skydeckonbroadway." (watch the reel)
Then the night-of reel, hood up, blood moon rising over the strip: "The Wolf ushers in the blood moon. Ayo @skydeckonbroadway, we at it again baby. Many thanks & much love. Shoutout to @shot_by_claud for the cinematics!" (watch the reel) @shot_by_claud is the same editor - also known as @shotbyclaudius - who'd go on to cut the site's anime AMV series against Moons and Beams. The relationship on display here predates any of that; it's just two people showing up to document a rooftop set on a Thursday.
Off the rooftop and past the bar, the shoot keeps running - then closes out under stage lights, mic in hand under orange and green haze, katakana projected on the wall behind him like the room itself is speaking two languages at once.
What "Blood Diamonds On Broadway" means
Take the residency as a whole and this is the night that shows its shape most clearly: a rooftop reveal, a costume change into armor, a stage set closing it out - the same three-act structure the whole season runs on, done in one of its sharper outfits. Nashville's rooftop bars weren't built with rap sets in mind, and Broadway's tourist strip runs almost entirely on honky-tonk and country cover bands. A residency that puts a self-produced, self-directed rapper on that exact roof, every Thursday, for a season, is doing something the city's music identity doesn't especially expect of itself.
That's part of why "Nashtyville Thursdays" became a documented local story in its own right, not just a booking - organizer Young Grey built it from a standing weekly slot into something the local news actually covered, and this is one of the nights inside that run. Nine tracks deep into a catalog that didn't exist yet in May 2024, two of the freestyles played this night still don't have a release date. That's the residency working as intended: the stage first, the record later.
