Nashville, TN — May 29, 2026 — Alpha The Wolf builds records like sealed rooms. Beams, out since May 15 and announced at the start of the month, might be the most airtight yet: 90 seconds, a beat Yuto mailed in from Japan, and the feds in the rearview the whole way — "Racks on me, Racks on me / Feds been watchin', Tax on me."
The run started outside his own hands. Days before the single, editor @shotbyclaudius cut an AMV setting Beams against battle sequences from Rurouni Kenshin — one of three of his Alpha The Wolf edits, now on the collab page.
Then Alpha The Wolf built the rest of the rollout like the cold open of a thriller. The first transmission was a phone call caught mid-panic: "Relax? You're kidding right? They're watching me! How the hell am I supposed to... Hold on, let me call you back..." (view the post). Under it, a figure in a gas mask and fur coat in a cloud of red smoke.
The answer came from behind the scope: "He can't be allowed to live. The higher ups want him out of the way, which means under no circumstances can you afford to miss. I suggest you bring a beam." (view the post). A red figure crouched under a green targeting laser, BEAMS across the frame.
Then the record, and Alpha The Wolf breaking the tension with a shrug: "Just a fun lil' song about tax evasion," he wrote, thanking Yuto for taking the call from Japan — "The VOID cannot be contained" (view the reel).
What "Beams" means
The video keeps the joke and the dread in the same frame: red haze, a dome lamp, targeting lasers cutting through the smoke, Alpha The Wolf sunk into the fur coat and the mask while the room is watched from angles it shouldn't be. Sparse 808s, a minute and a half, no wasted bar. The sound has drawn comparisons to ICYTWAT, WIFIISFUNERAL, and SNOT; it belongs to none of them. The "tax evasion" line is the shrug on top; underneath, "Beams" is about being watched from every side and knowing the meeting was always going to end one way.
Beams is the flare before the album. Alpha The Wolf's sixth, Nobody Likes When a Wolf Shows Up, arrives June 26. The single is streaming everywhere now, its video on YouTube.
