Nashville, Tenn. — Feb. 14, 2025 — Alpha The Wolf will release his sophomore album, Nyctophiliac, on February 28, 2025, the Nashville artist announced. Nine tracks deep and self-produced start to finish, the record trades his debut's trap-soul melody for straight rap and hip-hop — cold 808 patterns, minor-key loops, bars written to sit in the dark rather than cut through it.
The rollout has run in fragments rather than a single statement. One post carried nothing but a line built around the title itself: "Stay away from the l̶i̶g̶h̶t̶ !" (view the post) Another went further into the character behind the record: "The metamorphosis was complete. The darkness had changed him, embraced him. He was better, He was darker..." (view the post) Around the same stretch, a third post carried nothing but a borrowed line from Mark Twain — "Everyone is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody" (view the post) — the closest thing to a thesis statement the whole campaign has offered.
About "Nyctophiliac"
Nyctophiliac — taken from the word for someone drawn to darkness rather than afraid of it — runs nine tracks deep, led by two songs built out as proper singles: "Sunny-D," which arrives day-of with its own official music video and logo art series, and "Serp," co-produced with visual editor @shotbyclaudius, whose own video follows separately in the weeks after. The record also features "Holy Drip" and "Haneda Airport" among its nine tracks. Nyctophiliac follows Alpha The Wolf's debut, Forlorn, by about five months.
