"Dirty Diana," announced in mid-April and out since May 2, is one of the plainer ones — a title borrowed outright from Michael Jackson, and a rollout that said as much itself: "A rare moment of homage to the late king of pop! "Rare" is doing real work in that caption. Across a catalog built almost entirely solo — written, produced, and mixed by Alpha The Wolf himself, from Forlorn through Nyctophiliac — a credited outside collaborator is the exception, not the rule. @abigail_kwarteng_'s assist on "Dirty Diana" makes the track one of the few places on the site where his name isn't the only one attached to the work.
What "Dirty Diana" means
Sonically, it's a step out of the rap-and-hip-hop lane Nyctophiliac had just spent nine tracks establishing and into melodic trap — a lighter, more musical register, and a deliberate one. Naming a song after a Michael Jackson single is a specific kind of homage: less a cover than a title borrowed to sit a Nashville trap record next to a pop landmark, betting the listener catches the reference before the first bar lands. No official music video followed this one — the reel is the whole visual document, and it's enough. Four words carry it: homage, assisted, VOID, contained.
