Topgolf at night. Yellow fit. Victory lap.
Part of the spring 2024 run of shoots, Celebration at Topgolf is four frames made in a Topgolf hitting bay after dark, the lit driving range and colored LED targets glowing across the outfield behind him. The Nashville artist works a black tactical vest over a yellow hoodie, bright yellow cargo pants and black boots.
Two of the four put him at the tee box from nearly the same angle, club in hand, looking out over the range. The other two move to the lounge chairs - reclined with his legs propped on the ledge, drinks and snacks on the table, a companion taking a swing at the bay beside him.
This is Topgolf Nashville, at 500 Cowan Street on the east bank of the Cumberland River - microchipped balls, tiered bays, targets lit up on the field. The tactical vest pulled over a hoodie is the recurring seam - armor on for a night out. Yellow is the through-line: the Corvette's color, the warning color, the same shade that eventually headlines its own single, "C7."
The last frame leans him back in the lounge chair, the range and the city lights sprawling into the night behind him.
What "Celebration at Topgolf" means
A celebration means something got won. The shoot never says what - just the head-to-toe yellow, the vest, the range lit like a runway and a friend taking cuts in the next frame. Marking the moment is the whole event. It is the catalogue in its rare victory-lap register: still in tactical gear, but out on a Friday, keeping score for fun.
