Creek trail. White bully. Deer in the treeline.
Battlefield Creek is ten frames from a walk down the limestone creek trail at Stones River National Battlefield, along the Murfreesboro Greenway - a separate outing from Waiting For Sunset and Lonely Stones, which are their own day together. Alpha The Wolf works it low-key - sunglasses, a chain swinging from his cargo pants, a white American Bully off the leash on the pale rock beside him - then closes on a paved lane and, at the very end, the open hood of the yellow Corvette. Most of the roll is the dog. It stands alert on the trail while he crouches on the limestone, trots past his outstretched hand, moves off into the green scrub while he stands with his head bowed on the stone slabs. Bare branches fill the top of the frame; the creek bed runs pale and dry through the bottom. The deer that gives the shoot half its name stood in the treeline long enough to be caught.
The white Bully is one of the catalogue's steady figures. It walks a backlit winter field on a chain leash in another spring-2024 set, sits at his feet against the yellow Corvette for Blondes Have More Fun, and rides along to the Atlanta Botanical Garden later that year. Here it has open country and a creek to itself.
Off the trail, one portrait sits on a paved lane with a redbud coming into bloom - a black sweatshirt reading Fabric Of The Universe under chest rigging. The Los Angeles techwear label's lettering recurs across the catalogue, worn on stage for Assault Ops and into the floodwater for Flooded. It ends back at the road, one hand on his hip at the Corvette's open hood while the dog crosses in front of the car.
What "Battlefield Creek" means
The name reads as a place - and the wooded creek trails and limestone glades of the Civil War battlefield parks around Murfreesboro are exactly the kind of ground it describes - but nothing in frame confirms which one. What the phrase does inside the mythology is fuse two registers the way the wolf always does: a battlefield is where the pack is tested, a creek is where it drinks. The shoot stages neither. It is a man and his dog on a quiet trail, armor lettering on the sweatshirt, the Corvette parked at the trailhead.
In the wolf's telling the pack is a source of strength; this is the smallest possible version of that - one animal, one walk, no crowd.
