Blue hour. Bare sandbar. Water on all sides.
Lakeside was shot at Logan Martin Lake, a Coosa River reservoir east of Birmingham - close enough to the Railroad Park trip that it may be the same stay stretched further out. Fourteen frames made at blue hour on a wide, wind-flattened stretch of water, opening on the gravel shoreline in a ridged black hoodie, strapped cargo pants and a black beanie with the ties left long, then moving out onto an exposed sandbar sitting well off the bank. The light is almost gone the whole time. Early frames still show a face - jaw set in profile, a glance back over the shoulder, a hand sign thrown at chest height against the empty water. Then the roll gives up on detail and commits to shape: hoodie and beanie merging into one dark mass, the far treeline dissolving into haze, shorebirds lifting off the wet sand.
The centrepiece is the sandbar itself - a strip of wet ground only a few feet wider than his stance, water on every side, his reflection stretching down toward the camera. A hazy point of trees and a scatter of distant houses sit along one edge; otherwise it is one figure standing in the middle of a lake at the end of the day.
It is the quietest leg of that January run and the most exposed - no car, no second model, no location you could name. The same stripped setup the park weir and misty parking court shoots worked the same week, pushed further out.
What "Lakeside" means
Lakeside is a position, not a place - beside the water, not on it, not in it. The shoot walks that line literally, out to the last few feet of standable ground and no further, then stays there while the light drains. In the wolf's telling the VOID is the thing with no edge you can hold, and flat water at dusk is its calmest face: no horizon, no far bank, the sky and the lake the same colour. The response on camera is not to cross it. It is to walk to the edge of what will hold you and stand upright on it.
